In his works, two elements hold the attention embodied by the use of still shot mode and urban structures. They draw up graphic outlines. This combination creates a separate and minimalist atmosphere. It dives us into an art dimension throught day-to-day situations. Here, no room for show or inappropriate gaze. You are just there. Then, dualities come up: Human being Vs.Machine, Human being Vs.Architecture. Human occupancy spreads out strong tension and ambiguous effect around. Human being is drowned into spatial immensity whilst making us feel his strength by colonizing and overtransforming his environment.

Deux éléments attirent l'attention dans les films de Nicolas Bourquin: le plan fixe et l'architecture. Les structures urbaines exacerbent le plan fixe et définissent un cadre graphique. Leur combinaison produit un effet isolé et minimal. On est alors plongé dans la dimension artistique de situations qui ne sont pas inhabituelles dans l'absolu. Il n'est pas question ici de spectacle ou de voyeurisme. On est seulement là.
Enfin, il y a les dualités homme-machine et homme-architecture. La présence humaine crée une tension forte et un impact ambivalent, d'une part dans son insignifiance par rapport à l'immensité spatiale, d'autre part dans sa force frénétique de colonisation et d'action dans ce même espace.

In einer Zeit, in der die emotionalen Grenzen zwischen verschiedenen Wertesystemen wieder deutlich stärker sichtbar werden, macht sich Nicolas Bourquin auf die Suche nach universellen Momenten. Mit einer detailierten Dokumentation dieser Momenten, im Spiel mit Klischees, Verwirrung und Provokation sensibilisiert das System die Betrachter für kulturelle Unterschiede und Gemeinsamkeiten.
